Pluto Transitions into Capricorn
The astrology of the present time is certainly about change. The larger planets, Pluto and Jupiter and recently Saturn have moved or are about to move into earth signs. As a group, earth signs have to do with practicality and quite literally time and space. The earth is our planet and as such represents a sense of grounding and reality. It represents a feeling of being grounded and perhaps too much reality. Pluto in an earth sign can create a sense of being mired in things that are too earthy or earthbound.
The transition of Pluto into Capricorn in January 2008 will bring the end to a very long Pluto transit in Sagittarius. The Sagittarian transit allowed the face of terrorism to rise and expand to an obsessive intensity. Unbridled fear and anxiety has come as a result of 9/11 and the threat of terrorism globally. This fear has allowed a series of opportunities to give away freedom for the promise of being protected.
Pluto is a strange planet. This “dwarf” or “non-planet” is responsible for nuclear energy; the energy in our sphere that can eviscerate or transform depending on the consciousness of how it is utilized.
Pluto rules the underworld and as such is the god that presides over death. Pluto’s realm includes the liminal period before and after death and acts as the intermediary between heaven and hell, between conscious and subconscious. It rules the subconscious mind and all that is below the level of perceived and objective reality. It has dominion over what is considered to be our reality in that it represents the more real reality of what compels the manifestation of what is held or created in the subconscious mind.
